LangShop allows choosing the detection type for the original and target languages of the store.

To find them you should go to the Settings section => Languages => Mapping.

There are three types of detection available in LangShop: Store settings, By browser, By country.

Store settings

It means that at first visit a customer will see the original language of your Shopify store. There is no matter from what country your visitor. If the original language of your store is, for example, French, all your visitors will see the store in French. They can switch languages by using a language switcher.

Detect by Browser 

This option allows linking target languages to the browser languages. At first visit, a customer will see the content in the language that you will link to their browser.

For example, the original language of your store is English. You want your customers who have the browser language Spanish to see your site in English. For this, you should do the following:

  1. Choose the target language to which you will link browser languages. 
  2. Choose browser languages, that will be linked to the desired target language.

In our example, we've chosen English and Arabic. It means that people who have browser languages English and Arabic, will see the store in English.

Detect by Country (detect by location)

The option allows linking target languages to the appropriate country. At first visit, a customer will see the content in the language that you will link to their country.

For example, you have a store with the French as the original language. It is translated into English. You want customers in China and Japan to see the store in English at first visit. So, choose the language and add desired countries.

Note: When your visitor opens your store, he will see content in the linked language. However, he will have an opportunity to switch languages and LangShop will save the last language that the visitor switched to. So, next time a visitor will see the store in the language that he chose at his last visit.
For example, you have a store in English and it is translated into French. You link the French language to Canada. So, visitors from Canada will see the store in French at first visit. But if a visitor decides to switch to English and use the store in English, next visits LangShop will show the store in English even when the French language is linked to this country.
