Advice and answers from the LangShop help center

Basic Setup

After the installation, you need to take some steps to work with the application. Follow these steps:

Step 1: Choose destination languages

You need to choose additional languages, that will take part in content managing and displaying on your store.

LangShop provides more than 241 languages and you can choose any of them in any number. But there are some factors you may need to consider.

Note: Shopify limits the number of target languages. By default, you can add 5 target languages (+ 1 original language). Of course, you can add more than 5 languages, but only the first 5 will be published and highlighted in green. If you want to publish another language, you need to unpublish one of the target languages. But if you use Shopify Plus Plan, you can add 20 target languages (+ 1 original language).

Step 2: Choose categories

Choose categories of objects that will be translated automatically into the selected language(s).

We recommend you to enable all of them. Thereby, your store will be ready for work on the foreign market. After auto-translation, you will be able to edit text content manually.

Step 3 (optional): Choose themes

Note: Step 3 is optional. It can be available while switching from the old LangShop version to new with the opportunity to select a theme for translation.

To make your store's content multilingual, you need to create a localized theme version. LangShop doesn't make any changes in your themes, but it will create a new theme based on any theme from your store. This process is called Themes translation.

Choose a theme from the list to start translating.

After these steps background tasks will be created. You will be able to get acquainted with the app's functionality, make application settings, etc. until tasks will be completed (you will get notifications about tasks completion).

Step 4: Preview

When the translation is ready, you can preview it:

  1. Go to the Dashboard.
  2. Click the Preview button.

In the preview mode, you can check the content. If it's needed, you can go back to LangShop and make changes in translation. Take into account that the translated content isn't published and invisible for your visitors. So, you can manage the translated content according to your needs until it will satisfy you. For example, you can make advanced settings and customize switcher, add currency, translate images, etc.

Step 5: Publish

If you think that your content is ready to be presented to your customers, you should publish the LangShop theme. For this, go to the Dashboard and click Publish.

Congratulations! Your multilingual store is ready! Now your translated content is visible for foreign customers.

It was a basic setup. We recommend you to make advanced settings in order to improve your translated content. More detailed information about the advanced configurations is available in this article - Advanced configuration in 30 minutes.
